I strech my neck closer to the mirror, close one eye and carefully apply my eyeliner. I pull back to view the result. "Not bad Gigi!" I smile to myself.
I finish up quickly. I carefully put my new dress on and fluff my hair just as X enters the room. I turn to look at him and I can see the appreciation in his eyes as he looks me over.
"Do you think it's too much? " , I say as i survery myself once again in the long mirror.
"I think it is just perfect", he says with a big smile as he comes to stand right behind me to check my reflection and meet my eyes through the mirror.
"Should I go pick something more subtle just to blend in? I don't want your family to think I'm out to steal their thunder"
He shakes his head no and says " Wallah mo thanbich intay ennich jameela o aneeqa" ....
Wow !!
Where did that come from ??
Ok so I know he loves me, I know he likes the way I look- BUT HE JUST DOESN'T SAY THOSE THINGS TO ME EVER.
He is a good man, kind, caring and gentle. But let's face it, he's not the kind to have sweet lovely words coming so easily out of his mouth. I have to kick and scream and beg to drag a word of compliment from him!
I turn to face him, his eyes are twinkling as he locks them into mine and the corners of his mouth are moving slowly upwards.
Ok, this is it.
Now.
It's the perfect time to ask him that question.
"X.. ? "
"Hmmmm ... "
"What's it like being married to me? "
He takes a deep breath, tilts his head to the side, and just when he was about to answer I rush in and say: "Think carefully about what you are about to say because i'm going to quote you"
His eyes pop out: "Quote me ?!! "
"Yes, for a reader of Glitter who wants some male perspective on married life "
And as soon as I utter the word Giltter I can see his mood change. He sighs and takes a step back.
"O ba3dain ma3a hal Glitter? When will this phase end? "
I mentally kick myself for being so foolish. Everything was going just well but I had to interrupt him and bring up Glitter.. Ee chan sekattay ma elrayyal kan beta7acha mn kaifah wefathfith laish el logafa laish!!
"Khalas khalas forget it. Will you drop me off at your sisters' house? Maly khelg asoog"
I changed the subject but I WILL get my answer. I'll change the question a bit, edit the part where it is all about Giltter, and I'll ask him again later.
He throws me off by saying "Well sure my lovely, anything for the pretty lady"
